REASONS FOR BELIEVING THE BOOK

This writer will submit to you four reasons (although there are many more) for belief in God,  and particularly the God of the Bible:

1) Design.  This writer know you knows the arguments.  He, for one, cannot believe that the "Big Bang" (or any OTHER such explanation) produced the universe any more than he can believe that a "little bang" produced the wrist watch on his arm.  This watch had a designer and a maker. The universe is  infinitely more complex.  This writer may not have as strong a science background as some of  you, but he has studied and read extensively.  Everything he has ever read in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, etc., has shown it to be design, Design, DESIGN!  For example, the human eye is an intricate mechanism.  He cannot conceive of  such a mechanism coming about by chance or any other kind of  variations over a period of  how many years you may want to provide.  The formation of  the universe must have had a Designer and Maker.  This writer believes that Designer and Maker is Jehovah Elohim.  That is where the Bible starts, "In the beginning God [Elohim--plural word] created [third person singular] the heavens and the earth."

2) Transformed lives.  Atheism and other forms of  doubt have never raised a drunken bum out of  the gutter and transformed him into a decent, moral, valuable member of  society.  Historically, these systems have not produced by themselves apart from the influence of  the Bible, hospitals, relief for the poor, elimination of  slavery (incidentally, where Bible principles do not hold sway, there is still slavery), etc.  Outside of  the influence of  the Bible, these kind of  people with a very few exceptions (and these were Biblically influenced) have not left home to go at nominal pay to Africa and other continents to help lift the people of  those areas.  There is much more that can be said in this regard.

3) Israel.  Until 1948, the Jewish people were not a nation since 70 A. D.  The very existence of  this people in spite of every attempt to exterminate them, even in this past century and even now, is living proof  of  the Bible which predicted their calamities for leaving the true and living God.  The Bible also sets forth their return to the land of  Palestine and the restoration of  Israel as a nation.  The conflict that is now going on is the undying hatred for the Jews by the world at large. This also the Bible predicted would be the case.

4) The Bible Itself.  Of  all the books in existence, there is no book which has done so much good.  When the Bible was read daily in the public schools (generally confined to the Old Testament), troubles were minor.  Since the Bible has been removed, troubles in the public schools has abound, and both government and school authorities have been unable to solve the problems even with increased demands of  more money.  Furthermore, no book on the face of  the earth has been hated by many, both governmental and religious, as the Bible.  What is it about the Bible that causes mankind to hate it so? The answer is self-evident; it is because it tells of  man's sin and his judgment.

These are but four reasons for believing that the Bible is the Word of  God.  Many more can be set forth.
